As India's towns and cities get more crowded
and congested; as the number of vehicles grows exponentially while available
parking space struggles to keep pace – weare faced with an urban crisis. Road
spaces get obstructed, flow of traffic gets hampered, probability of accidents
increases. Simultaneously,drivers end up wasting time, energy and fuel;
pollution levels rise.
Multilevel
car parking provides
a feasible and effective solution.
WHAT IS MULTILEVEL PARKING?
Simply put, a multilevel
car parking system is a
manual or automated facility that utilises vertical rather than horizontal
space for parking vehicles. It houses multiple vehicles on every level thereby
enabling optimal utilisation of precious space.
Multilevel car parking offers more advantages. It comes with
low maintenance, operational and construction costs. If automated, it offers
more safetyfor both the vehicle and the driver than conventional parking lots. Multilevel parking systems also
free up valuable urban space for landscaping, amenities or other lucrative use.
While we may think the shortage of parking
space is a comparatively modern issue, it's interesting to note that the first
recorded multilevel car
parking system was
built way back in 1918 in Chicago, USA.
WOHR’S RANGE OF AUTOMATED MULTILEVEL CAR
PARKING SYSTEMS
Wohr offers a wide range of options in
multilevel car parking. Barring a few exceptions such as the turntable and
platform parking systems, all of Wohr’s products are multilevel parking
systems. Broadly, they can be divided into 3 categories:
1. Stack Parking: A stack
parking system is a type of automated
parking system that “stacks” more than a
single vehicle in a singular parking space. The cars are placed on levels above
and below each other, which gives the developer the benefit of providing
parking spaces for multiple vehicles, while increasing space efficiency of the
area. Stack parking systems are supposed to double, or multiply the parking
space available, and also uses the basement area if required. It is one of the
most prominent parking systems available today.
These
stack parking systems are
segregated further into 2 types – Dependent
and Independent.
Dependent parking systems are those where the lower platform has to be
evacuated first, in order to let the upper platform come down.
Independent parking systems are those that do not depend on either platform in
order to access the vehicles and remove them.
2. Tower Parking: A tower parking system is
one type of an automated parking system (APS) that is mechanically designed to vertically
allocate parking spaces, especially in very small and narrow plots. This system
is also known as an elevator
parking system as it uses a lift mechanism to reach the various “levels” it
provides, ranging from 5 to almost 35.
A tower parking system uses
the most compact plot area, and maximizes the parking spaces within
the same. For example, it provides enough space to vertically park 60-70
vehicles, in the space of just 3 vehicles. Developers have now moved towards
installing these tower parking systems in their buildings as they help with
feasibility, security, safety and provide more parking spaces in
a more systematic manner.
3.
Puzzle Parking: A puzzle parking system provides
multiple parking spaces in the form of levels – Upper & Lower. These
levels, or parking spots, have the capability to move horizontally or
vertically, just like a “Puzzle”, to automatically park a vehicle in a vacant
spot. These systems are independent in nature, which means that any car can be
parked or retrieved without vacating another parking spot.
These parking systems make use of hydraulic systems to move the “pallets”
vertically and horizontally, depending on the availability of a vacant spot. It
is a fully automatic system where the driver just has to park the vehicle in
the lower platform and vacate the car. The system then moves the pallet on
which the car is placed to a vacant spot wherever it is possible. In order to
do this, there is always one vacant spot, which enables all the other platforms
to move freely and retrieve the car that is needed. This system is easy to
maintain and has lower operating costs as compared to a conventional parking
space.
ADVANTAGES
OF WOHR’S MULTILEVEL CAR PARKING
SYSTEMS
-
Optimal utilisation of space
-
Higher cost efficiency: lower maintenance and
operational cost
-
Lower construction cost; easier and faster to
build (owing to the prefabrication)
-
Safety & security(as there are no ramps
or walkways, people do not walk around the car, thus saving the vehicle from
harm, theft or vandalism)
-
Environment-friendly (the underground
implementation renders the outdoor space free for landscaping)
-
Saves time and fuel as drivers do not have to
drive around trying to locate parking space
-
Comfortable for the drivers
-
Cost saving for builders by saving height or
depth
-
Requires minimal lighting, cleaning,
maintenance, staff, etc. to keep running
CONCLUSION
Since the number of cars on the roads began to increase,
Wohr has been designing and installing these multilevel parking systems. And
because they specialize in just parking systems, Wohr today is the company with
the most extensive product range worldwide.
Wohr is one of the leading car parking systems manufacturers in India. With more than 700,000 parking spaces installed worldwide, 100,000 of these in India alone - the reliability, safety and benefits of Wohr multilevel parking systems speaks for itself.
